About This Blog

This is typically the page in a martial arts blog where a person will tell you about the 9 million black belts they have and the 5,000 grandmaster sifu soke hanshi sensei’s they’ve trained with.

That’s not this blog.

This blog is a place to share my ideas on teaching and training martial arts and physical culture. I have nothing to sell, and no need to assert my authority or background. I present these ideas as they are in the moment. I know they should and do evolve. Nothing stated here is absolute.

The evolution of my own understanding of teaching and learning is heavily influenced by ongoing explorations of decolonization, trauma-informed coaching, neurodivergence, queerness, community mindedness, ableism, anti-racism, anti-capitalism and what it means to partake in somatic activities that historically have shown limited accessibility to members of marginalized groups.

It is my hope that the ideas presented here stand on their own merit. Do not listen to what I have to say because of my belt rank, lineage, or competition record. Consider these ideas, dismiss them, adopt them, or remix them into something useful to you.
